About
Editions Verde is proud to release the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack from BLOW THE MAN DOWN (Amazon Studios, 2020), co-written and co-directed by Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy. The album was co-composed by Jordan Dykstra and Brian McOmber and features sea shanties by David Coffin.
Press about the film and soundtrack:
“…a film that obeys the most cherished crime-thriller conventions while infusing them with just the right amount of stylization and personal commentary.”
(Ann Hornaday, The Washington Post: Here are the movies that wowed Washington Post critics in 2020, December 23, 2020)
“…the eerie score is by Brian McOmber and Jordan Dykstra [and] just hearing the music makes the film worth seeing.”
(A. S. Hamrah , The Baffler, July 2020)
“The story’s sharp turns are nicely echoed, too, in the jig-like, clattery score from Brian McOmber and Jordan Dykstra, with the atmosphere often punctuated by professional shanty singer David Coffin (seen on screen as one of those fishermen) occasionally warbling the ominous sea tune 'Blood Red Roses.'”
(Robert Abele, LA Times, March 19, 2020)
“Most admirably, it’s tied together with slick editing by Marc Vives and fantastic music by Jordan Dykstra and Brian McOmber, each scene flowing into the next one perfectly with grand rhythmic procession.”
(Greg Vellante, Spectrum Culture, March 25, 2020)
“The Hitchcockian score by Jordan Dykstra and Brian McOmber and act divisions punctuated by stirring sea shanties accentuate the marked noir vibes, setting a bleak tone early and reinforcing the hard-working citizens who call this seaside town home.”
(Adam Patterson, Film Pulse, March 16, 2020)
“The music and visuals add to the textured New England that writer-directors Cole and Krudy so deftly depict with their script and actors. The score by Brian McOmber and Jordan Dykstra is unsettling and beautifully off-beat, one of gruff strings and percussion that resemble the drop of crab cages and rope on the docks”
(Aidan Driscoll, The Tech, April 1, 2020)
“The powerful, quirky score, supplied by Jordan Dykstra and Brian McOmber, lends a spooky air to the proceedings, and definitely adds to the tension.”
(Leslie Combemale, Alliance of Women Film Journalists, March 11, 2020)
“Jordan Dykstra and Brian McOmber’s score is distinctive but never distracting and manages to balance its comedic tone with suspense. “
(Art House Street)
“And the musical score, a mix of droning fiddle and percussively thumped piano, is able to shift innovatively from jaunty to ominous. (The composers, Brian McOmber and Jordan Dykstra, have previously lent their considerable skills to films like Hail Satan?, It Comes at Night, and Krisha.)”
(Andrew Spitznas, Secular Cinephile, March 22, 2020)
“Composers Jordan Dykstra and Brian McOmber provide a mesmerizing soundtrack that heightens all the emotions that buzz around key moments in the film. Their exceptional use of strings jumps off the screen within the first 20 minutes and leaves audiences paralyzed with its ominous reverberations any time their score seeps its way back into the film.”
(Matt Ward, Cinematic Considerations, April 19, 2020)
Artist Bio
